Mary Paciello Cause of Death: Sha Tin College Community Mourns Beloved Educator After Period of Illness

It is with profound sadness that the Sha Tin College community is mourning the passing of Mary Paciello, a much-loved educator whose 34-year career with the school left a lasting impression on generations of students, families and colleagues.

Mary passed away last Friday after a period of illness. She was surrounded by her loving family at their home in Wales, where she had spent her final days with those closest to her.

Her death has prompted an outpouring of sadness among members of the Sha Tin College community, particularly those who had the privilege of working alongside her or learning from her during her long and distinguished career.

Mary and her husband, Neil Harris, both retired from Sha Tin College just two years ago after decades of dedicated service. Mary joined Sha Tin College in September 1990 and remained part of the ESF community until her retirement in August 2024.

Throughout her career, Mary was known not only for her professional expertise but also for the care and commitment she showed toward her students.

She was a passionate educator and a strong advocate for young people, dedicating much of her professional life to helping students develop their talents and overcome challenges. Her influence extended well beyond the classroom, with successive generations of Sha Tin College students and their families benefiting from her knowledge, compassion and guidance.

Mary Paciello Remembered as Dedicated Teacher

During her many years at Sha Tin College, Mary held several important positions.

She served as Head of Music and taught Music, sharing her passion for the subject with countless students. She also served as a Head of Year, supporting students through important stages of their education, and worked as a Learning Diversity teacher, helping students with different educational needs receive the support and opportunities they deserved.

These roles reflected the breadth of Mary’s contribution to the school.

For colleagues, she was someone whose dedication and professionalism were deeply respected. For students, she was an educator who cared about their individual development and was willing to advocate for them.

Her work in music was particularly significant. As a teacher and Head of Music, Mary helped nurture students’ creativity and encouraged them to discover the confidence that can come through artistic expression and education.

Over more than three decades, countless students passed through her classroom and benefited from her guidance.

Although Mary retired from ESF in 2024, her influence remains within the community she served for so many years.

The announcement of her passing described her as someone who was immensely admired and respected, and noted that she will be remembered fondly by many former students, families and colleagues.
